Holt Art Projects

Mannington Nature Awards

This year Holt art awards have a total of seven awards that will be shown in an exhibition across 2 venues, St Andrews the Apostle Holt and Allen Hall Gallery Glandford, from 20th July – 1st August 2026.

One of our members Nicola Whayman has had 2 pieces accepted into the Mannington Nature Award. This award celebrates artists who respond to the landscape and natural world, Nicola’s work fits very well into this award:-

‘My work is in response to my natural surroundings, exploring and enjoying natures resources, discovering what I can use in nature to create. My aim and focus is to work alongside nature in the materials I use so that the beauty of nature is displayed within my work’.

The 2 pieces that have been accepted are:-

Held In The Light

This explores the spring equinox as a threshold- a movement from sheltering inward to the slow unfurling of what is ready to grow. This piece shows a journey of how spending time in nature can help to restore and create a readiness to grow new skills to protect our world. Learning to work with local gathered plant fibres and UK willow and wool naturally dyed, the beauty and usefulness of the natural world is displayed.

Daffodil

Daffodil is a 3D cube piece displaying the beauty and usefulness of the daffodil plant. This plant appears in the mist of winter bringing happiness and hope of warmer and lighter times.  Discovering the ability of this plant to create art work has brought further joy and wonder of the natural world. Using the heads to create colour and the leaves to make cordage this delicate plant shows an inner strength that can often be found when time is spent in nature.
