Phillip describes his earliest experience of stitch on a Singer treadle sewing machine. Later he inherited his mother’s New Home machine and took to a ‘Get to know your machine’ workshop! He began to develop an interest in patchwork and quilting and joined the Creative Stitch course where he learned many different techniques. During the course Phillip had a quilt exhibited at the Festival of Quilts at the NEC. He has also exhibited with the European Quilt Association and at the Quiltfest North.
His interest in hand and machine embroidery including goldwork has been developing over the last few years. He produces work in both two and three dimensions and enjoys exploring new ways of embellishing textiles and using metals. Ideas for designs come from natural objects and even reflections and patterns of dentist’s lights!
