Nicola responds to the natural surroundings. Exploring and enjoying nature’s resources, to create and encourage well being.
Her work has a focus on nature, working alongside nature both in her practice and the materials she uses. Considering her local resources, being as sustainable as possible while enjoying the process of creating. Nicola develops her art work through research and uses her senses to reflect what she feels is the essence of the subject. She continues to challenge her practice and the products used to find the balance between caring for and expressing her response to her environment.
Nicola enjoys the slow process of hand stitch, drawing, writing and making fibres from nature or pre-loved items, giving her time to reflect on her experience. Stitch journals and walk mapping are responses to her time in nature through stitch. Encouraging and sharing this with others is growing within her practice.
“Developing good mental health is important to me, spending time in nature and creating and are essential for this work”
